Podzolic soils are Boreal forest soils found on sandy parent materials. There are no mapped occurrences of Podzolic soils in Saskatchewan although isolated soils that meet the criteria for the Podzolic Order have been found. Podzolic soils have experienced relatively intensive weathering of the upper Ae horizon and translocation of iron, aluminum, and organic matter into the middle B horizon. The cold, relatively dry conditions found in the northern Boreal forest in Saskatchewan may prevent the microbiological processes required for creation of organic acids and the onset of intensive weathering in these soils.
